Watercolors 24"x48" 2014 Everyone who sees this painting is reminded of the Ben Franklin in their hometown from childhood. The original black and white photo for this Ben Franklin was taken in 1980 in Elgin, Illinois. I felt scale and proportion was important to capture the feel of this scene, to accomplish this I made this painting four feet wide. I utilized the strong red bricks, on the left and right buildings, to create a bookends effect - this draws your focus to the lighter orange brick of the Ben Franklin. Further attention is focused to the lightest area of the painting, the awning and the strong shadowed windows. The influence for this paint is Edward Hopper’s “Early Sunday Morning.”
