This is the second time I have painted this image. The first painting sold back in the late 1980's. This is such a strong composition I was compelled to paint it again in my new style. The original is a black and white photo I took in college vintage 1982. This is Canal Street looking south under Eisenhower Expressway. You can see the old post office on the left. I approached this painting a lot quicker and looser than my other urban scenes. I really like the how the color saturation gives a raw feeling to the late summer sun.
